About The Thanda Inja Project

In 2014 Cheryl Gaw, the founder of Pug Rescue South Africa started The Thanda Inja Project. The Thanda Inja Project takes place in Daveyton, Benoni. The community Pug Rescue SA assists is impoverished and mostly unemployed. Pug Rescue South Africa is a welfare organisation doing welfare work.

Every second Tuesday Pug Rescue SA together with Dr Bernie Eales and other volunteer veterinarians offer free basic veterinary care to the dogs, cats and sometimes livestock in the community.

Pug Rescue SA have a very successful sterilisation programme in partnership with The Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) to reduce the extreme problem of over-population. Every sterilised animal goes home with a bag of food, bowl, collar and lead (not the cats) and a blanket. Pug Rescue SA have built up a trusted relationship with the members of the Daveyton community and have seen obvious changes in the care and welfare of their animals.

Pug Rescue South Africa now has a registered veterinary clinic where low-cost sterilizations are offered to low-income earners.
