About The Thanda Inja Project
In 2014 Cheryl Gaw, the founder of Pug Rescue South Africa started The Thanda Inja Project. The Thanda Inja Project takes place in the Gabon and Chris Hani Informal Settlements in Daveyton, Benoni. The community Pug Rescue SA assists is impoverished and mostly unemployed. A welfare organisation doing welfare work.
Every second Tuesday Pug Rescue SA together with Dr Bernie Eales and other volunteer veterinarians offer free basic veterinary care to the dogs, cats and sometimes livestock in the community. Pug Rescue SA have a feeding scheme where over 450 registered dogs and 80 cats receive a bag of food every two weeks.
Pug Rescue SA have a very successful sterilisation programme in partnership with The Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) to reduce the extreme problem of over-population. Every sterilised animal goes home with a bag of food, bowl, collar and lead (not the cats) and a blanket. Pug Rescue SA have built up a trusted relationship with the members of the Daveyton community and have seen obvious changes in the care and welfare of their animals. Pug Rescue SA look forward to continue expanding our Outreach work to be able to help more dogs and cats in need and educate previously disadvantaged communities on basic pet health care and zoonotic disease control.

Outreach: Thanda Inja (love dog)
Our outreach project is called Thanda Inja (love dog) and is run separate to Pug Rescue SA with its own registration and banking account.
The focus of The Thanda Inja Project is to take veterinary care into an area that does not have access to vet care or the means to pay for veterinary care.
The Thanda Inja Project has its own registration and website.
